Happy Rosh Hashanah

Today we talked about the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. It is Jewish New Years, and on this day people of the Jewish faith ask for forgiveness for any sins they may have committed through the year. We talked about some of the things we might ask forgiveness for like not listening to our parents,  or saying not so nice things about others, and being mean, to name a few.  The kids found it fascinating how the Jewish people are called to worship by blowing a ram's horn.  We also had the traditional apple slices and honey that Jewish families would eat to hopefully have a sweet new year.

We read It Is Fall in reading group, and in handwriting we started with capital letter "R" in clay.  In writing we wrote on apple designed paper in keeping with our theme.

PE was today.

In math we did unit 2-3. Of note is many of the children still have a problem with differences, and "how many fewer", is one group compared with another.  Hold up five fingers on one hand and three on the other, and ask them "how many fewer fingers are on on hand than the other?"  Then try "how many more fingers are on one hand than the other?"

In social studies we continued on our community theme with attention to what makes us the same and what makes us different.  Try it with them.  I am a boy, you're a girl, I have long hair, you have short, I like soccer, and you like baseball.  What makes us the same?  I have two eyes, ears, etc., etc..

Next week I hope to get to the Duvall library with the kids on Tuesday afternoon.  We also plan a special treat of visiting the Duvall Fire Department on Thursday, courtesy of Weston's dad, Mark.
