Today in reading group we read The Garden. As we read our short beginner sentences I had the children add descriptive words to expand the sentences. As an example, the sentence may read: The beans. I will go around the room and have the children add something to the sentence such as; The green beans. The long green beans. The beans in my garden.
In handwriting we began capital letter "B", to be followed on Thursday by "R". Challenge your child with "B" words. Sound it out. In writing, continuing on the "B" theme, we choose bikes to write about.
PE today.
We also did a little apple art to go with our theme this week on apples. This one was a partially eaten apple. While many look at art for art's sake, I look at this project as a way to see the children's fine motor skills as they draw, color, cut, and their cognitive skills as they display realism, abstractness and follow step by step directions.
In social studies we are now beginning to talk about families. Today we drew our families to add to our community mosaic. If you have not sent in a picture of your family yet, we would really like one for our "family tree".
