Today we read The Plant. I changed our reading routine a little. After we have gone through the book sentence by sentence, student by student I will pick at least 4 students every day to read the entire book by themselves. This will better tell me that they indeed recognize the words, and are reading, not just repeat what the student before them has just read.
I am happy to say we finally got our Scholastic Magazines and we began reading those together and doing the short activities is in them. One of the activities was to make shapes using our bodies. Please see the photo stream to the right to view pictures of our human squares and triangles. The kids really enjoyed this.
Sent home today is a Mary Kay fundraising promotion. Please have a look at it and if you can help our school by purchasing something, please do. Also in their folder will be a home project called My Gifts. At our last assembly Miss Jena spoke about our theme that everyone is special. This activity has your child identifying what special gift they have.
Example: God made me special by giving me the gift of playing soccer (or reading or anything they are good at).
I can use this gift to bless others and God. This is how I can use it. To teach others how to play soccer, or become better readers or anything. Finally there is a place to draw a picture. This is all optional, but if you wish to do it send it back in and I will pass it on to Miss Jena.
In handwriting we did the letter capital "L", followed by phonic practice of the same letter. For math we did lesson 2-7. When you check their red folders you should now begin to see a core review worksheet. I now begin the lesson with which is a brief test of the prior lesson, and a quick check which tells me if they got the current lesson.
Kids had PE today.
In social studies we worked on our portfolios. We began with a self assessment of how we work with others, share, solve problems. We will also start a word bank based on our neighborhood, and write about it based on the words in our bank.
