We could not have picked a better fall day for our field trip today to Tolt/McDonald Park and Nature Vision. Our tour took us on a nature walk over the swinging bridge. I felt like I was on a ship as it gently swayed back and forth. From the bridge we could see some very large salmon making their way up stream to lay their eggs. We saw a wonderful bear pelt, and our guide showed us two native birds that were preserved for close observation. We saw a number of tracks in the sand that borders the river. Deer, dog, and even the tracks of a bobcat were visible in the sand. We learned about the cycle of plants and leaves and how dirt really comes from decomposing leaves and forest matter. Our guide knew some bird calls and she was actually talking to some far off birds. The kids were fascinated. We finished with lunch there and returned with a side trip to the Taylor Park in Duvall. Check the photo stream on the right of this page for pictures of the kids today, and also the short video below. Our guide gave each child a distinctive frog sound and the kids were to find their same frog species based on just the sound the frog makes. It was hilarious. We want to give a special thank you to our driver/chaperons Stacy Highland, Jeremy Brabec, and Kari VanderHouwen
Back in school we had music today and in Envision Math we did lesson 2-6 for those who are following along on-line and want extra practice. We are getting better with the concept of fewer, more, and the same, but I can see some students are still having a little trouble. They understand what those words mean, but when I say show me 1 fewer, or 2 more some have a little difficulty. So please practice at home with something like this:
Example:
Draw 4 circles (markers) in one row
Now show me 1 fewer in a row below the top row.
