Family Coat of Arms

We had a little heraldry today in social studies with the kids creating their own coat of arms for their family.  We brainstormed some characteristics we all strive for in our family and added them to our family crests.

In our reading group we read Summer Picnic.  As you may know Mr. M. gives out Mando Mullah for just about anything that is positive in the classroom.  Now, if your child reads to you the story we read in class the day they bring it home - Boom, they get a dollar.  So if they ask, please listen.  It doesn't take long.  They will be on the honor system the next day when I ask if they read their daily reading book to a family member at home.

In handwriting we reviewed the letter's "V" and "W" carefully forming the letters and writing "V" and "W" words.  In keeping with the Halloween spirit we read a great book on Halloween. I learned things about the tradition I did not know, so ask your kids about why they wear costumes, or the legend of Jack-O-Lantern, and how he searched  endlessly for Heaven because he was not allowed in the first time.

I passed out Scholastic Book catalogs for November.  Please consider buying books through them for your child.  The classroom also benefits by getting free books for the class with the points we accumulate.  Use our special number when ordering.
