Our reading for today came from Baby Animals. I am really emphasizing sounded out words we do not know. At home use this technique with your child, not to the point that they are frustrated but make them work a little to try and decode. This will also help them with their writing. At this point in the year I am not concerned whether or not your child can spell at all. I do want them attempting to spell a word by using the sounds phonically. Example: HSE is perfectly fine for house. If your child is just writing letters down without sounding them they are not writing phonetically.
In handwriting we did the letter "Q". All the letters we have covered have been just capitals, or upper case. As we finish the alphabet, we will turn our attention to lower case, phonics, emphasis vowels, and blends.
Our Let's Find Out magazine was about Veterans Day and we spoke about what it means. We also did our November calendar. This activity involves the kids filling out the calendar. They learn that starting on the wrong day, or missing a number can affect the accuracy of their entire calendar. They also have a choice of drawing a picture that reflects some event that happens in that particular month.
PE today. In Envision Math we did lesson 3.3. In social studies we spoke briefly about an oncoming project which will be mapping their neighborhoods. They will need help from home as this is an at home project. Each one will be expected to make a map and be able to talk about their neighborhood in class.
I will send out an email detailing the project.
