The Rainforest

I forgot to mention that yesterday we did Fruit of the Spirit and focused on faithfulness.  As with these mini life lessons the children offer their ideas and feelings about each topic.  I also read to them about the Noah and the Great Flood. While they understood why Noah could not save all the creatures of earth (ark not big enough), and I explained that as long as he choose a male and female of each species they would again multiply.
Question Mr. M?  "How did Noah know the males from the females?"
Answer:  "God knew."  "Next question."

We read Go Away, Lily.  On their own for the first time, the children added expression to their reading.  It was amazing!  Have them read it for you.  Great teaching moment to demonstrate through their own voices how we can make reading interesting to not only ourselves but to others too.  Sedona has a Dr.  Seuss book she wants to read to us tomorrow.

Today we started our next social studies unit - The Rainforest.  We talked about what we know about the Rainforest.  Going forward we'll talk about what we'd like to know about it and then what we have learned about the Rainforest.

We again went to the computer lab and spent another good 45 minutes on Explode the Code.  I have set up a reward threshold for them.  If they accomplish 10 units or 30 minutes they get to play a game.  In math it was lesson 9.7, and making 10's.

As part of each one's challenger folder I have added a fun brain teaser workbook for free time or if they finish an activity early.
