Today in reading we read How Frogs Grow. We went to the computer lab again and I split the time between Explode the Code, and IXL. While most all are able to sign on and navigate through Explode the Code, some had trouble getting on IXL. What I noticed is that many of the kids had jumped around the program. The program is meant to follow a logical sequence, and while the earlier lessons are too easy, they do build on things to come. In addition, if your child remains at Hillside they will continue with the IXL program. Take a moment and satisfy yourself that your child is navigating and understanding the program. They will need some parent time with them at least to get started and some help along the way. Left to their own accord some will guess at answers which is not what we want.
Mia was our guest reader today, reading the book Bears On Wheels for the class's enjoyment. Nice job Mia!
In math we did lesson 9-9 which introduces graphing to the students. Tomorrow we will have our end of unit assessment. I sent home the unit 9 enhancement packet to be worked on at home.
We finished our day with discussion about the Rainforest, and viewed a few videos about it. Of particular interest was the video that 3rd graders did on the Rainforest with the children describing the different layers of the Rainforest through their art. They also had a classroom recreation of the Tropical Rainforest. We will be doing something very similar when we return from spring break.
