For reading we read It Is School Time. We practiced today for our assembly skit, which is this coming Friday at 2:45. We will rehearse a couple more times before our performance in front of the entire school.
Remember Friday will be pajama day, and for our skit they need to be in PJ's. It is also crazy hair day. So lots of excitement this Friday!
For handwriting we had lowercase "x", with only "z" remaining before we have finished both upper and lower case letters. I am encouraging everyone to use their lowercase now unless it's a word that needs a capital. We only journaled today as it would really be a challenge to find many "X" words in the room.
We traveled to the Duvall Library today for our monthly visit with Mrs. Huber, our friendly librarian. My reminder went out only this morning to return books, so if you need books returned, please send them in and I will return them to the library.
In Social Studies I introduced our next project which will be to construct a real float (shoebox) which represents our heritages. I will rely on you to work at home with your child to build a float that represents their heritage. It should be colorful, and could have drawings of places in their countries or dress that is unique to that country. You need not represent every country on the float. One side could be from the father, and the other from the mother. I will have the students get the basic float covered and then from there you can help them design and decide on different elements to include on their float. When done we will attach a string to pull it along and have a parade at school showing our pride in our cultural heritage. I will put out some materials in the classroom for you to take home to use on this project over the weekend. I would like to have the floats completed by next Wednesday.
Mr. M
