We had a lot going on today. In reading we read Opposites. For handwriting we did lowercase "d". In phonics we finished our unit one work packet. Please make sure to check notes I may have made in their workbooks. I strongly encourage all to use the online support program on the Explode the Code site. Phonics is the key to reading, writing, comprehension, and spelling. It unlocks the doors to all subjects and is vital in your child's development. Read, read, read!
In science we talked and learned about our eyes. What we need them for and what life would be like if we lost our sight or were born blind. The children used mirrors to draw their eyes and their neighbor's with great detail in their science notebook. I sent homework home. The task is to observe and draw your family's eyes, and bring the drawings back to school.
I conducted the end of unit math assessment. Most did well, but some had difficulties. Please review. Notes on their test.
The kids ended the day with Spanish, and then I held a group meeting on behavior. In a separate email I cancelled the PJ party tomorrow with hopes they can earn it back for Friday.
Side notes:
I pay a "Mando buck" now if the children can zip up their coat by themselves without getting it stuck. I pay a "Mando buck" for reading to me the complete daily reading book. I pay another buck if they say they read to you the previous night with little or no help. (almost all make the claim that they did) I also give a "Mando buck" if they write their name clearly, and each letter is in proportion to the other.
