Today we talked a little about how different faiths celebrate holidays, particularly about Hanukkah, which starts next week. The kids all got dreidels to play a game with and gold coins. We also spoke about Kwanzaa and Diwali, The Festival of Lights that the people of India celebrate. This topic also played into our final theme in our social studies class, neighborhood celebrations. We talked about our own parades here during Duvall Days and the 4th of July. We also planned a backyard party and brainstormed about what things we could bring to a party and that above all that celebrations are FUN.
In reading we did My Room. Then we listened to some of The Velveteen Rabbit, a Christmas classic. In handwriting we did lowercase "a". In our choice writing the topic was special holidays. We read our December Let's Find Out from Scholastic Magazine.
Kids had PE today and after PE we made our monthly trip to the Duvall Library for some wonderful reading and storytelling from Mrs. Huber. The kids love her and she loves them!
