Dress Rehearsal Today

Today was a full blown dress rehearsal of the children's Christmas play  performance.  I forgot to mention they needed to be in dark colors today or black.  They did fine.  Encourage them to sing loud.  Most did, but when they see a big audience sometimes stage fright can set in which can yield some to silence.

Today we read My Dog.  In handwriting we did the letter 'v".  In science we measured our hands using grid paper and counted the number of squares to get an area measurement.  We then took a handful of our counting bear math manipulatives  to see how many are in a handful.  This was all done to demonstrate size and proportion, and to reinforce what wonderful tools our hands are.

In math, we continued with lesson 4-9 introducing the number line to aid in understanding number sequences.  This concept of ordering numbers  has proved to be a little more difficult to some as I indicated in yesterdays blog.  But we will keep at it, and I am using for more strategies to unlock the understanding for them.  Kids finished off their day with Spanish and I had them practice number writing and sequencing.  0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.
