We started first grade books today and I was splendidly surprised that everyone pretty much held their own with some needing just a little help.  We will take it slow.  The book we read was Animal Tongues. 
In Fruits of the Spirit it was Moses and the Ten Commandments today.  We also talked a bit about heaven using Marie Shriver's book What's Heaven? Most of the children related to pets they owned or a pet someone they knew owned and had passed on.
Each table group today got a sentence building packet to construct sentences.  We will use these as a tool to help the children improve and expand their writing.  Three word sentences, then four, and beyond.
We worked in our Explode the Code Handbook.  Kids had Spanish today.  In math we did our end of unit assessment for Unit 13.  Everyone did fine.  I sent home results, along with some more ETC worksheets for you to review how they are doing with the off-line edition of our phonics program.
