Today we read What I Am for reading.  I have started sending Listening Dragon home again.  Today it went home with Laina to be returned next Monday.  Encourage them to write about their experiences.  Look at the other entries.  Look to see if the writing is improving.  While they can have some help (sounding and writing what they hear), I want them to write.

In handwriting we did lowercase "i".  The children again today were encouraged to "read and write the room", coming up with as many 'I" words as they can find.  They discovered the World globe and map and a flood of activity occurred as they looked for countries and states that begin with "I".

Our word wall is growing and we spent sometime taking words off our wall and constructing complete sentences.  In phonetics we worked in our workbook on the letter "H".  Do you hear the "H" sound at the beginning or end of the word.  They then select the correct spelling and write the word.
The children also journaled today, some even twice over the course of the day.  We did not have Spanish today, so we had some extra time.

In science it was about hair today.  I sent homework home for them to do.  They will need your help with it.  Please return it for our next science class on Friday.

In math we moved on to lesson 5-2, and the numbers 13, 14, and 15.  You might look for erase marks as an indicator of a mistake on their worksheet.  Sometimes it may not be a mistake as I will have them re-write a number if I feel it's too sloppy.  I am encouraging them to double check their work, as they often make careless counting errors.  So erasing may not always mean that they don't understand or made a mistake.
