Monthly Chapel

Today we read Up and Down.  Next week will will begin level 2 books. At home reading has slowed down some.  Please encourage them to read to you.  I am told by nearly all that they read to you every night their class book of the day.  We are on the honor system.

At morning group we celebrated Laina achieving her first hour of IXL Math at home.  We also celebrated Han's accomplishment of finishing 500 questions in IXL Math at home.  Yes, 500 questions! Congratulations to both of them.

In handwriting it was lower case '
"l" today.  Most of the kids can now  "read and write" the room and manage a sentence or two in their writing journal.

Today was creative movements class.  In math we did Envision 5.4 and I will do an assessment next week before moving on to numbers 21-30.  Please note that while your child may be able to count to 20, 30 or even a hundred, most are having problems when it comes to counting objects like you see in their daily Envison worksheets that they bring home.  They seem to easily get confused or skip a number when they are counting larger numbers.  I have shown them some strategies to minimize mistakes such as putting a tick next to each object or to write the number above it (1,2,3,4) so that they account for every object.

Our assembly was a spirit day one,  I encourage the children to wear their school shirts.  If you don't have one please consider buying one.

Upcoming events
  • Duvall Library next Tuesday  Bring your books in or drop off yourself
  • January 26 and 27 Parent Teacher Conferences - I will put a sign-up sheet on the door or up front where you walk in.
  • February 11 Sweethearts Night Out - Consider dropping your child off at the school and go refresh your relationship with someone you love.
  • Still need some headphones for the kiddies that do not have them.  We will be spending more time in the computer lab and really don't need to spread ear infections, and head creepy little things.
  • I am thinking about a field trip to Seattle Children's Museum at end of this month or early February.  Please let me know if you will consider driving.  Probably need 3-4 cars.  If anyone has other suggestions let me know.
